The multinational American based company, Johnson & Johnson, has been producing pharmaceutical and beauty products for over 125 years. They are most well known for their “Johnson’s Baby Lotion” sold in the pink plastic squeeze bottle, but recently their South African team came out with a brand new product line. The collection is called “African Nurture” and it has two product lines including body washes and body creams. I love the various fragrance names including “Revitalizing Cape Geranium & Buchu.” Cape Geranium is a popular flower and Buchu is an herb and both are commonly found in South Africa.

What I love the shrink sleeve packaging that is utilized for these new products. Notice that for the body washes, each uses a long shrink sleeve printed half with a colored backsplash and half with the text and graphics printed on white. The body creams have a smaller tub container and sleeve but they still use the same type of modified graphics. I love the high quality images that are designed to show the object splashing into water. The reasoning behind these graphics is that the products were created specially for the South African women that need an ultra-hydrating product (due to the warm climate). Also, did you know that the circular pattern printed on the solid parts of these sleeves is actually reminiscent of the popular South African “Shweshwe” pattern commonly found on their fabrics? I love when a product design incorporates something culturally pertinent as it makes it seem more personal to the customer buying the product.
