Rachel, Dion's Prepress Color Specialist

We often talk about the incredible work our Prepress Department does, and Rachel Allessio is an integral member of that team that helps translate digital artwork to outstanding printed labels. She has been with Dion for four and a half years. As Prepress Color Specialist, her responsibilities are varied: she leads brand-managed artwork including GMI brands, responds to press operator needs with color issues and questions, and regulates color instruments and libraries. She is also one of the people who does the important work of preparing proofs for customers, as well as creating and maintaining customer-specific color standards and resources.

Rachel says she loves the environment at Dion. “Everyone is great to work with and very personable. I also love that Dion is always looking forward to new technologies and new ways of thinking.” She was originally drawn to the company because she was impressed with the structure of the Prepress Department and the dual printing environments (digital and flexographic).

We asked Rachel about her proudest moment here. She said she’s “had many proud moments, all involving different aspects of being an employee here. I do have to say I still find it so exciting to be in a store and see products that I worked on being displayed on a store’s shelf. Or even more exciting—seeing the product in a family member’s house!”

When Rachel is not in the office, you can probably find her on the slopes during the cooler months or in her vegetable garden and flower beds when the weather is nicer. She also belongs to a volleyball league which is an activity she participates in year-round.

Check out these 5 fun facts about her that we love:

  1. She’s an avid gardener—anything that has to do with flowers, vegetables, trees, etc. she’s all about.
  2. She was in a professional Nutcracker Ballet production.
  3. She used to raise and show Rabbits through 4-H.
  4. She plays drums and electric bass.
  5. She is a professionally certified snowboard instructor.

We love having Rachel as a coworker; she’s always willing to engage with those around her, whether that’s through planning special occasions with the Events Committee or just volunteering to help the Marketing Department take some photos. Her personal philosophy is to “treat everyone with respect. Someone might be having a hard day and your kindness could help turn that day around for them.” And she advises others in her profession to always be willing to learn and try new things, which we think is great advice!

Designing a label can be an involved process; logos, fonts, layout, material, and finish all must be taken into account. Then there’s the product-specific copy and information to include. It’s easy to get hung up on any or all of these things, but don’t forget to consider the importance of color selection While you may be choosing your colors based on your product or on your own color preference, you always want to make sure your colors are communicating the right thing to potential customers.

As part of Inovar Packaging Group, Dion Label Printing is working to creating a world-class enterprise by building an innovative platform to drive sustainable growth and handle the increasingly complex demands of our diverse range of customers. Over the last several years, our parent company Inovar has acquired new facilities at a quick pace, including, most recently: Cimarron Label in Sioux Falls, SD and Amherst Label in Milford, NH. Acquiring is a major part of Inovar’s strategy to grow the company and better serve our customers and our internal teams, and we are concurrently working to expand our capacity, capabilities, and service offerings in other ways. To that end Inovar has recently moved into a newly renovated headquarters building in Dallas, TX. Located just a short distance from Inovar’s previous facility headquarters, the new location was built to showcase the mission of our brand. At triple the size of the last facility, this brand new building with its huge increase in both office and production space will enable us to provide even more solutions and support to our customers. The new facility is not just larger, however. In order to increase our capacity, capabilities, and offerings, and give our customers the highest quality labels and packaging solutions, we’ve added two new flexographic presses and a new digital press. Our Director of Marketing, Ashley Stewart, states, “the additional capacity, services, and embellishment capabilities will greatly increase our ability to meet all the requirements of even the most demanding brands. The team is thrilled to debut the new facility and showcase our capabilities to our existing and future customers.” We also have other expansions in the works. An addition of almost 20,000 additional square feet of production and warehousing space will expand Inovar’s Milwaukee, WI, location, Flexo-Graphics, and its presence in the area. We are excited for the opportunities our growth provides us to continue our rise as a premier label and packaging solution provider. Contact us today and let our growth help fuel yours.
