OTC Pharma Trends—Are You Ready?

According to Pharmapack, there are as many as 300,000 OTC pharmaceutical product lines available in the US. The increasing growth of this industry is expected to continue at least for the next several years, so the need to make your brand stand out has never been more important. Dion Label Printing has vast experience in printing for OTC pharma and nutraceutical companies. We are equipped to help you with all of your labeling requirements, from security and regulatory concerns to extended content labels to ensuring your brand colors print just right!

OTC Pharma Products

One area that is changing quickly for OTC pharma is regulations. Labels must distinctly indicate what the product is so buyers know what they are getting. Text must be clear, and important ingredient and nutritional information must appear on the label. More and more often, tamper-evident and/or childproofing features are mandatory for product lines. Even more importantly, measures to stop counterfeiting are being implemented globally. These rules include unique serialization numbers and bar codes. While the specific regulations currently apply directly to prescription drugs, OTC producers should be aware that it is only a matter of time before they will likely be held to the same standards. In fact, if an OTC drug is deemed to be at risk of being counterfeited, it can already be held to the same regulatory safety standards as prescription drugs. At Dion, we are intimately familiar with the unique needs and concerns for OTC pharma companies, and with extended content labels, Part 11 and Annex 11 Compliance, and our other measures to keep your packaging secure, we can help make sure your label is ready for whatever OTC Pharma regulations bring.

Safety concerns are similar for both prescription and OTC drugs, though packaging is extremely important for OTC pharma and supplement brands where it isn’t for prescription companies. While the security of your product is surely of upmost importance, sales and product differentiation are definitely a main concern as well! Differentiating your packaging in such a crowded field can seem difficult, but Dion offers many print solutions that make your product stand out on the shelf. Using uniquely-shaped bottles is one trend companies are using to set themselves apart; shrink sleeves are an increasingly popular option in the OTC pharma and supplement industries because they hug the shape of your product packaging while increasing print and art space—a perfect fit if your packaging is unique. At Dion, we print labels to fit all shapes and sizes of packaging, so whatever bottle you choose, we can print the right label to set you apart. With a wide array of materials, coatings, specialty packaging, and our GMI certified printing, Dion can help you make sure that your product draws the attention of a consumer when it’s on a crowded shelf!

Keeping up with the trends of a growing industry is necessary if you want to improve or maintain your brand recognition. Dion Label Printing is always here to make sure your printing needs meet the demands of your industry, so contact us to see how we can help keep you on track as your market grows!

Designing a label can be an involved process; logos, fonts, layout, material, and finish all must be taken into account. Then there’s the product-specific copy and information to include. It’s easy to get hung up on any or all of these things, but don’t forget to consider the importance of color selection While you may be choosing your colors based on your product or on your own color preference, you always want to make sure your colors are communicating the right thing to potential customers.

As part of Inovar Packaging Group, Dion Label Printing is working to creating a world-class enterprise by building an innovative platform to drive sustainable growth and handle the increasingly complex demands of our diverse range of customers. Over the last several years, our parent company Inovar has acquired new facilities at a quick pace, including, most recently: Cimarron Label in Sioux Falls, SD and Amherst Label in Milford, NH. Acquiring is a major part of Inovar’s strategy to grow the company and better serve our customers and our internal teams, and we are concurrently working to expand our capacity, capabilities, and service offerings in other ways. To that end Inovar has recently moved into a newly renovated headquarters building in Dallas, TX. Located just a short distance from Inovar’s previous facility headquarters, the new location was built to showcase the mission of our brand. At triple the size of the last facility, this brand new building with its huge increase in both office and production space will enable us to provide even more solutions and support to our customers. The new facility is not just larger, however. In order to increase our capacity, capabilities, and offerings, and give our customers the highest quality labels and packaging solutions, we’ve added two new flexographic presses and a new digital press. Our Director of Marketing, Ashley Stewart, states, “the additional capacity, services, and embellishment capabilities will greatly increase our ability to meet all the requirements of even the most demanding brands. The team is thrilled to debut the new facility and showcase our capabilities to our existing and future customers.” We also have other expansions in the works. An addition of almost 20,000 additional square feet of production and warehousing space will expand Inovar’s Milwaukee, WI, location, Flexo-Graphics, and its presence in the area. We are excited for the opportunities our growth provides us to continue our rise as a premier label and packaging solution provider. Contact us today and let our growth help fuel yours.
