BBC Imperial Stout

One of these was amazing Imperial Stout labels was printed digitally and the other flexographically. Can you tell which is which?

Berkshire Brewing Company was established in 1994 in Deerfield, Massachusetts. In their twenty years of business, Berkshire Brewing has grown from a small, distinguished microbrewery brewing seven barrels at a time to New England’s premier regional craft brewery. From seasonal selections to classic ales and IPAs, they are an icon of Western Massachusetts and beyond. For over ten years Dion has partnered with Berkshire Brewing Company to print packaging for their vast array of brews, and we love the variety of their flavors and their packaging design. Berkshire Brewing labels and shrink sleeves exemplify the ways in which we at Dion can adapt as our customers’ businesses grow and change.

When you are a company with as many types of product as Berkshire Brewing, there is no one-size fits all label solution. Producing seasonal offerings, using containers of varying sizes and material, and requiring different numbers of labels for different orders are all challenges that need resolution. Digital label printing is our method of choice for short runs of labels or for orders with multiple varietals while flexographic printing is ideal for longer runs. Berkshire Brewing Company is a business that requires both, and the last thing they want to worry about is whether their labels will be on brand and consistent regardless of the print method used.

Dion handles the logistics of deciding which method of print is best for every individual order. We go above and beyond to ensure that colors are always on brand. Many of BBC’s offerings, like their iconic Steel Rail and Hoosac Tunnel, have labels with one primary color palette. Color is essential for brand recognition and aesthetic appeal, and at Dion we go to extreme lengths to make sure colors always match. All of our presses run on the same substrate definition files, so regardless of the press used for print, colors will always match. Our prepress department, press operators, and quality control department are constantly working to ensure colors are on brand, and our equipment has in-line spectrophotometers and other automation to help make this possible,

Berkshire Brewing Company also offers many of their brews in a variety of sizes and packaging selections, like cans or glass bottles. Label material is not the same for every type of packaging, and whatever substrate is used, we have exacting standards to make sure registration and color are perfect. Whether your Berkshire Brewing Company beverage of choice is a 22 ounce bottle or a 12 ounce can, their products are always recognizable with the distinct brand colors and design.

As part of Inovar Packaging Group, Dion Label Printing is working to creating a world-class enterprise by building an innovative platform to drive sustainable growth and handle the increasingly complex demands of our diverse range of customers. Over the last several years, our parent company Inovar has acquired new facilities at a quick pace, including, most recently: Cimarron Label in Sioux Falls, SD and Amherst Label in Milford, NH. Acquiring is a major part of Inovar’s strategy to grow the company and better serve our customers and our internal teams, and we are concurrently working to expand our capacity, capabilities, and service offerings in other ways. To that end Inovar has recently moved into a newly renovated headquarters building in Dallas, TX. Located just a short distance from Inovar’s previous facility headquarters, the new location was built to showcase the mission of our brand. At triple the size of the last facility, this brand new building with its huge increase in both office and production space will enable us to provide even more solutions and support to our customers. The new facility is not just larger, however. In order to increase our capacity, capabilities, and offerings, and give our customers the highest quality labels and packaging solutions, we’ve added two new flexographic presses and a new digital press. Our Director of Marketing, Ashley Stewart, states, “the additional capacity, services, and embellishment capabilities will greatly increase our ability to meet all the requirements of even the most demanding brands. The team is thrilled to debut the new facility and showcase our capabilities to our existing and future customers.” We also have other expansions in the works. An addition of almost 20,000 additional square feet of production and warehousing space will expand Inovar’s Milwaukee, WI, location, Flexo-Graphics, and its presence in the area. We are excited for the opportunities our growth provides us to continue our rise as a premier label and packaging solution provider. Contact us today and let our growth help fuel yours.
