When creating a label that is going to be written on or printed on, picking the correct material combination is key.
Handwriting
Dion offers materials and laminations acceptable for handwriting, however the specific material combination you choose should be tested. There is an additional option of using a selective varnish plate. This plate will prevent the writeable area from being covered with either a gloss or matte varnish. The same writing implement should be used across the board and specified. A Sharpie is usually recommended.
Thermal Transfer and Direct Thermal Printers
When your label project is in the process of being quoted, be sure to inform your contact of the specific printer and model you are using. There are finishes specifically made for thermal printers. Another consideration is eye mark placement. In order to properly feed a label roll through a printer, an eye mark is sometimes needed to signal the printer to when the next label is ready to be printed.
