Why Working With a GMI Certified Printer Is Important

As a premier label and packaging printer who’s been in business for over 60 years, we understand the significance of third-party certifications. We regularly undergo audits in food and pharmaceutical safety, product security, and other areas where our customers require documented proof that the highest standards of performance are in place. We know that our avowals to provide superior quality products only go so far, and that outside certifications are essential for doing business with many producers of consumer goods.

Dion Label Printing is GMI-Certified (Graphic Measure International) for both digital and flexographic printing. In fact, we’re the first printer in the nation to be GMI-Certified Platinum for both methods. This certification helps measure color standards through the label printing process while at our facility. It also provides control on retail shelves to ensure uniformity. Some of the brands we are certified GMI printers for include CVS, Target, Walgreens, and Home Depot.

But perhaps you’re wondering why our GMI certification specifically matters to you? Working with a GMI certified label printer provides numerous benefits to large and small companies alike. Along with guaranteed color consistency, brands are assured of predictable packaging results that help maintain brand identity. When such a large percentage of consumer buying choices are made based on quick packaging judgements, especially color, it’s hard to overvalue the importance of printing your labels with a company that will get your colors right, every time.

What’s more, according to Mann & Co, “GMI certification is one of the ways the printing industry standardizes and qualifies various printing companies. Quality control in printing is a crucial element, as many print jobs are so large in volume that a single error or misprint can cost companies significant money.” Beyond printing labels and packaging that follow strict color standards and have guaranteed consistency from one print run to the next, our GMI certification lets our customers know that we are a top-quality printer all-around.

GMI is a standardized system that we use to evaluate and assess the quality of a print job; their standards are industry-wide, so our certification enables our customers to compare apples-to-apples when looking at various print companies. Mann & Co. states that the “GMI process was developed from the standards included in ISO 12647, which dictates industry best-standards for optimizing efficiency and other processes in printing businesses. As a derivative of the ISO standards, the GMI certification comes with respect and authority as ISO’s industry-accepted standards.”

There is a lot that goes into achieving GMI certification, including self-evaluation and print tests. After establishing brand color standards, we regularly conduct internal audits on the GMI print jobs we run. To maintain our certification, we must continually establish that we have met GMI’s stringent standards for color, quality, and consistency.

As a printer who puts quality and service above all else, we weren’t satisfied with just being GMI certified. GMI has three tiers of qualification for certification as follows: Bronze: Printers with a performance history under review (under 79%). Gold & Silver: Printers in good standing with a historic consistency score between 80%-89%. Platinum: Elite printers with a historic consistency score of no less than 90%.

Dion has attained the top tier of GMI certification, Platinum, which means we consistently produce the absolute best quality print product of anyone in our industry. What’s more, Dion has maintained the highest rating of platinum in both the digital and flexographic categories since certification with GMI many years ago. A platinum rating qualifies Dion as a fully certified high performance print packaging supplier. As one of the only platinum-rated label printers in the country, Dion is confident we will be able to assist with all your printing needs. As part of Inovar Packaging Group, Dion Label Printing is working to creating a world-class enterprise by building an innovative platform to drive sustainable growth and handle the increasingly complex demands of our diverse range of customers. Over the last several years, our parent company Inovar has acquired new facilities at a quick pace, including, most recently: Cimarron Label in Sioux Falls, SD and Amherst Label in Milford, NH. Acquiring is a major part of Inovar’s strategy to grow the company and better serve our customers and our internal teams, and we are concurrently working to expand our capacity, capabilities, and service offerings in other ways. To that end Inovar has recently moved into a newly renovated headquarters building in Dallas, TX. Located just a short distance from Inovar’s previous facility headquarters, the new location was built to showcase the mission of our brand. At triple the size of the last facility, this brand new building with its huge increase in both office and production space will enable us to provide even more solutions and support to our customers. The new facility is not just larger, however. In order to increase our capacity, capabilities, and offerings, and give our customers the highest quality labels and packaging solutions, we’ve added two new flexographic presses and a new digital press. Our Director of Marketing, Ashley Stewart, states, “the additional capacity, services, and embellishment capabilities will greatly increase our ability to meet all the requirements of even the most demanding brands. The team is thrilled to debut the new facility and showcase our capabilities to our existing and future customers.” We also have other expansions in the works. An addition of almost 20,000 additional square feet of production and warehousing space will expand Inovar’s Milwaukee, WI, location, Flexo-Graphics, and its presence in the area. We are excited for the opportunities our growth provides us to continue our rise as a premier label and packaging solution provider. Contact us today and let our growth help fuel yours.
