Candle Labels: Our Material and Decoration Capabilities

Gina Lisella • Dec 14, 2021

We understand that candle makers have unique labeling needs and require labels that accomplish several different goals. Obviously, because of the nature of candles, label functionality is key, so the adhesive and materials used need to be able to withstand heat while working properly for the candle container itself. Candle companies face an exceptional amount of competition, so it’s integral that labels have visual and tactile appeal. Finally, candle labels may need to include information that is important to the consumer, such as wax material and burn time.

Dion Label Printing has decades of experience working with candle companies, from local single-person startups to large corporations. We know the ins-and-outs of candle labels, and we will guide you to the label that is right for you. Read on to discover some of our candle label capabilities!

MATERIAL SELECTION

FILM (AKA BOPP) – RUGGED, VERSATILE, DESIGN OPTIONS

Films (BOPP) are probably the most versatile label material option, and the top recommended material for candle products. BOPP is a sturdy, fatigue, and heat resistant material. We offer BOPP in white, metallic, and clear options.

PAPER – COST-EFFECTIVE, STRAIGHTFORWARD, DESIGN OPTIONS

Paper can be used for the primary jar label, a lid label, or base label often containing a barcode or product details. Paper is a more economical, though less rugged, alternative to BOPP and if your primary concern is straightforwardness and cost, a paper label may be just what you’re looking for. As with BOPP, we offer several different paper material options other than just white, including metallic options.

TEXTURED PAPER – HIGH END, DECORATION, DESIGN OPTIONS

Different from our standard paper, textured paper comes in a variety of colors and appearances ideal for a candle. Textured paper has the potential to elevate your product for an elegant, upscale look and feel. Textured paper comes in several different options including but not limited to classic crest, estate, linen, felt, and vellum paper in colors ranging from white to cream or even black.

DECORATION OPTIONS

For many candle brands a luxurious, enhanced look is helpful to elevate products for the desired market. Beyond metallic or textured substrates, as discussed above, high decoration elements can be added to most labels.

HOT STAMPING & COLD FOIL STAMPING

Foil stamping, hot or cold, both begin with the goal of adding metallic elements to create a gorgeous and high-end feel to a label. Hot stamping begins with a sheet of metallic foil and custom tooling that stamps the desired metallic shape with heat to transfer the foil onto the label. Similarly, cold foil uses printing plates and adhesive to transfer foil to the label material to achieve the same effect. Foil stamping is offered in a wide variety of colors including silver, gold, and copper.

CAST AND CURE™

Different from foil stamping, Cast and Cure™ is a high decoration effect that adds a prismatic look to a label without adding additional material. The Cast and Cure™ process starts with application of a UV coating to your label, covering either the entire label or a selective portion. Cast and Cure™ film is then temporarily laminated to the label and cured to ensure the film's micro-embossed surface imparts its pattern onto the coated surface. The laminated film is removed and the holographic pattern remains. Our candle customers love Cast and Cure™ for limited edition collections that require an elevated look.

EMBOSSING

Texture is an ideal way to entice your customer to pick up your candle. Embossing creates raised areas of a label which could include lettering, graphics, or shapes. To create the effect, special tooling is used to imprint the desired shape into the label. Embossing can be done on select paper materials and should be coated with varnish to maintain the texture. As with all of our label solutions, we provide candle labels that are customized to fit your unique needs. Decorative effect, custom tooling, material, and number of print colors are some of the factors that will play a role both in the final look of your label and the cost. If you’d like to see and feel the label options we discussed above, we’ll happily send you a free sample packet!

As part of Inovar Packaging Group, Dion Label Printing is working to creating a world-class enterprise by building an innovative platform to drive sustainable growth and handle the increasingly complex demands of our diverse range of customers. Over the last several years, our parent company Inovar has acquired new facilities at a quick pace, including, most recently: Cimarron Label in Sioux Falls, SD and Amherst Label in Milford, NH. Acquiring is a major part of Inovar’s strategy to grow the company and better serve our customers and our internal teams, and we are concurrently working to expand our capacity, capabilities, and service offerings in other ways. To that end Inovar has recently moved into a newly renovated headquarters building in Dallas, TX. Located just a short distance from Inovar’s previous facility headquarters, the new location was built to showcase the mission of our brand. At triple the size of the last facility, this brand new building with its huge increase in both office and production space will enable us to provide even more solutions and support to our customers. The new facility is not just larger, however. In order to increase our capacity, capabilities, and offerings, and give our customers the highest quality labels and packaging solutions, we’ve added two new flexographic presses and a new digital press. Our Director of Marketing, Ashley Stewart, states, “the additional capacity, services, and embellishment capabilities will greatly increase our ability to meet all the requirements of even the most demanding brands. The team is thrilled to debut the new facility and showcase our capabilities to our existing and future customers.” We also have other expansions in the works. An addition of almost 20,000 additional square feet of production and warehousing space will expand Inovar’s Milwaukee, WI, location, Flexo-Graphics, and its presence in the area. We are excited for the opportunities our growth provides us to continue our rise as a premier label and packaging solution provider. Contact us today and let our growth help fuel yours.
